Extinguishing the fires from an Overnighter Training Weekend
November 1, 2021

A good day for Quesnel Search and Rescue. And a good day for the public who may depend on search and rescue volunteers to rescue them and bring them to safety.

Today QSAR volunteers took a flight with Yellowhead Helicopters to the summit of Slide Mtn. near Wells/Barkerville to repair our lame radio repeater.

The site is not easily accessible by hiking or by ATVs.

Bob and Wade replaced a controller and patch cables to have the repeater back on the air.

The site has coverage of the Bowron Lake Provincial Park, Cariboo Mountains and most of the recreational areas around the site.

There is a Link Radio that connects this site back to Quesnel and is monitored regularly by our members. The Link also connects to our Nazko repeater.

Having these Links will help keep our teams safe and assist in efficient back haul communications.

The work of many volunteers has made this project successful. Thank you for all your help.

We are very thankful to Telus for signing over the ownership of their retired Com Shell to Quesnel SAR. This has been a great gift which enhances QSAR’s ability to do our job.
