Hypothermia Wrap
Quesnel Search and Rescue Members participated in a cold subject packaging in a hypothermic wrap training session using the new Ruth Lee Doll.
Preceding this hands-on session, members have taken the Baby Its Cold Outside training as well as in classroom informational sessions regarding various types of winter rescue scenarios that may be experienced finding or rescuing individuals who have been exposed to extreme heat loss risks, and how to respond accordingly in order to provide the best possible outcomes for each situation.
On Saturday October 24th, Quesnel SAR and Prince George SAR participated in Hoover Exit training. The SAR members were training to enter and exit a helicopter while the helicopter is hoovering about 1 metre off the ground.
The maneuver can be a bit tricky as the volunteers must be very careful not move the helicopter suddenly as they board or step off the helicopter.
It is not easy to hold a helicopter. It is a balancing act while adding or subtracting weight of passengers.
Training by the pilot also includes showing where the first aid kit and ELT are located. A demonstration of how to open and close the cargo compartment and the passenger doors was shown. Special attention is to be given to seatbelt use and storage.
